An Exhibition at the Sheppard Gallery,UNR-July, 2008

post-petroleum: envisioning suburban space in an age of peak oil is an exhibit currently taking place at the the sheppard gallery, Univereity of Nevada Reno; July 1st through July 31st, 2008. Closing reception 5-7 pm with guest curator lecture at 5:30 pm, Thursday, July 31st, 2008.

in selecting works for this exhibit, we were looking for work that both reacts to the current condition in contemporary urban/suburban space in America, (what Jame Howard Kunstler, author of "the Geography of Nowhere" has described as "the tragic landscape of highway strips, parking lots, housing tracts, mega-malls, junked cities, and ravaged countryside that makes up the everyday environment where most Americans live and work." We also were looking for artists whose work seeks to offer possible solutions to our spacial dilemma, or at the very least, tries to describe the future of a sprawling built environment that is no longer viably navigable by the automobile.

We invite you to submit digital images, either of work that you have done, or simply pictures that you have taken of your urban/suburban environment that you would like to contribute to this dialog. These images will be posted here, as part of an ongoing online exhibit. This exhibit will continue to grow, so you should be sure to re-visit this site to see new additions as they are posted!
